A work release center for nonviolent offenders could be up and running this fall along Route 22 next to the West Hanover Township municipal building, a location not far from the West Hanover–Lower Paxton border. WHP CBS 21 has more, including a video report.

Important meeting tonight ... The Lower Paxton Twp. Zoning Hearing Board will review Triple Crown Corporation's request for a special exemption to operate a car wash at the former gas station on N. Mountain Road next to the First National Bank of Marysville branch (pictured), 7 pm at the Municipal Center. Township supervisors somewhat reluctantly changed local land-use rules earlier this year to allow a car wash at this location if the developer can jump through a few regulatory hoops. If the proposed facility were OK'd by the zoning board, Triple Crown still would need to get a plan approved by the supervisors. Supervisors Bill Seeds and Bill Hornung were skeptical that a car wash could be crammed into the half-acre lot. Lower Paxton news ... Police are trying to track down crooks who ripped off residents at Pennswood Apartment Complex. ... As most of you know, a pair of roundabouts is included in planned improvements in the village of Linglestown. The residents will present a list of changes they want incorporated into the plan to protect their properties from potential problems posed by the location of storm water basins. Grass mowing contest update BB's yard-mowing count has been stuck at 21 since way back on August 4. The contest ends on November 1 and then the big prize will be awarded to a lucky someone.

The upcoming workshop meeting of the Lower Paxton Township supervisors (Tuesday, Sept. 9, 7 pm at the Municipal Center) will feature discussions on some notable topics. In addition to continued deliberations on a proposed mountainside housing development, the meeting agenda includes items about Koons Pool and the proposed cable TV franchise with Verizon. ____ Workshop sessions are held once a month and feature in-depth discussions of issues before the township. The supervisors usually do not vote on issues during these meetings. Unlike regular Board of Supervisors business meetings, workshops are NOT televised. The public is invited to attend.

LP changes time of key meeting

According to a legal advertisement in today’s edition of The Patriot-News, the starting time for the Lower Paxton Twp. Board of Supervisors workshop meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 9 has been changed from 6 pm to 7 pm at the Municipal Center, 425 Prince Street. The meeting agenda had not been posted on the township’s Web site at the time this post was published. A key agenda item is expected to be a discussion on the Estates of Autumn Oaks, a mountainside, luxury home development proposed by McNaughton Homes. Residents of Centennial Acres, a large housing community located between Colonial and Patton roads at the base of Blue Mountain, are seeking last-minute changes to the plan.
